Honey's eyes reopened. "wha...?" These dogs were planning to help her with her foot. Once agan, a wave of releif washed over the golden soggy dog. "Thank you," she breathed softly.

OOC~IC She blinked, then rolled her eyes. 'Oh yes sure.. with THAT stick. I doubt it very much.. but whatever.' She thought silently to herself, pacing quickly over to the stick she'd been pulling along behind her and picking it up again, her jaws barely fitting around on end. It was more of a log really, but it wasn't all that heavy, well not for her at least. She pulled it towards the others, dropping it on the ground a few feet away from the golden colored dog. "Are you sure you want this stick?" She muttered in a gruff tone, her eyes scanning the riverbank again.
Kora wasn't that used to interacting with other dogs, especially since the last ones she'd tried to get along with ended up turning on her and chasing her out of their part of the city. She turned, taking a few steps away and retreating to her haunches. The fur over the back of her neck was still bristled. Why had she even offered to help these fools? They had all been splashing about like idiots while trying to help one dog. What was the life of this golden dog, to the others? She wondered.

Kia took Honey’s paw and felt around for popped joints or broken bones; and that would probably not feel too good to Honey, but it must be done. She had her back turned to Kora, which could be a big mistake on her part. Then she heard Kora’s gruff voice and she whipped around, but then calmly relaxed herself, and raised her eyebrows. She could deal with a back-talker alright, and if Kora didn’t want to help then why didn’t she leave? She announced in a loud voice, “I can probably break off a piece of this thing to make it set well, and if you have anything else to say, I would ask you to speak up because we all can’t hear low mumbles and grumbles all the time.” Kia was fully aware that this dog was not comfortable around her, and she walked over and picked up the stick in her mouth. Returning to Honey she marked a place with her paw and started to put pressure on one end of the stick to make it break. Still looking down and focusing on her work she said calmly, yet still raising her eyebrows, “The name’s Kia, and I’m going to have to know all of your names before we go any further into this conversation or I’m afraid I’ll have to refrain from being comfortable with all of you.” She still looked down at Honey into her eyes and said, “You don’t need to be standing on that paw, one thing I’ve learned from my past is that when something feels painful, its probably injured.” There was a touch or humor in her voice, but she was still serious. They were on her good side, for now.

Duke sighed and padded a little bit away. He shook his fur a few feet away so that he wouldn't get anyone else more wet than they were. Then he padded back over a bit more dry and his fur fluffed up. "I'm Duke." he said sitting down. "Do you need me to hold her paw for you?" he asked stepping forward.

Honey looked up at the dog called Duke. "ah, ummm sure!" She said, offering him her injured paw. She looked around at the dogs around her. "Thank you," she said "you saved my life"

OOC~IC Kora grunted harshly, getting to her paws and glaring at Kia with anger starting to well up in her eyes. She shook her head, allowing the fur down her spine to bristle. "Keep your sarcasm." She barked, making sure it was loud enough that the others could hear her well. Her rims parted in a slight snarl as she turned around and pausing there. Slowly she looked over her shoulder and added. "I was only worried that it might be to large for your needs. I thought something more flexible might be in order, but your choice."
She turned away again and slowly padded down the bank of the river, her dark amber eyes scanning the waters edge until a spark of pale light in the water gave away the back of a fish not to far under the water's frothing surface. Kora sat down, gazing down into the water. Slowly her forepaws slid forward and she lay down, laying her muzzle on her paws. She didn't understand why the two other dogs had risked their own lives to save another's life. Especially when it seemed like they hadn't even known each other. She didn't understand what compelled them to do something so... Selfless.
Her eyes narrowed and she looked hard into the river, they seemed to focus on something that couldn't be seen. What was it to have trust in something more than yourself? If it happened to her she didn't expect anyone to rush in after her. They'd just let her be swept downstream until she'd drown.
Her gaze turned back to the others, barely visible on the bank upriver. Maybe that golden dog was just lucky.

Kia smirked as Kora left and then turned her attention to the other dogs around her. A smile broke out on her face and she said, "Hello Duke, thank you for helping me rescue...." Kia turned to Honey with a puzzled expression on her face, "What was your name again?" Then she turned back to Duke and said, "I haven't met many dogs that would risk their lives for one they don't even know. Assuming that you two have never met before..." It WOULD be quite helpful if they realized she was there. Neither one of them had said a word to her since she had gotten the golden dog out of the river. She lied down and took her end of the stick, and glanced backwards at Duke.
How odd, dogs willing to stick their necks out for each other.... How strange indeed....

OOC~IC Kora grunted again, slowly pulling herself back up to her paws and stretching, the fur over her spine prickling for a moment before she turned and set off on a long rout towards the city. She needed to find a good place to be all by herself for a while. The day was still young, and she had plenty of time to think about what had just happened, and what she would do for the rest of the afternoon.
Picking up speed she continued down the riverbank, staying well back from the water as she passed trees. The feel of breeze in her fur caused a smile to tug at her wide muzzle. She was leaving the river, and wasn't going to return for a while at least.

Duke held Honey's paw ontop of his as Kia began to suport it. "No, we've never met." he laughed. "And you should be talking!" he added smiling at her. "You jumped in as well ya know."

KiA Kia listened to the laughing male and a smile broadened on her face. She got to her gray paws and padded through the slushy ground back over to the river, which once again, seemed deluding and calm; no longer the intense rapids that had almost killed the golden dog. She waded in about knee deep, and stayed very still for about two minutes. Then, with striking speed, she leaped up and out of the water, did a twist and landed in a dive. For a few mere seconds she was underwater, and then she arose, triumphant, a trout big enough to feed all three of them dangling from her jaws. Blood dripped from her and the trout; the trout had puncture wounds from her teeth, and a scar ran down Kia from where he had finned her interminably. Kia felt his fins once again slice her nose, and she hurled the fish towards Duke and Honey. It landed with a small splat beside Duke and gave one last effort to struggle back to the water before it lay still. Kia waded out of the water and went over to some water plants that hung limply from the banks. She found one that had a long thick dark green blade, like seaweed almost, and picked it up after dipping it in some mud and then sloshing it around in the water. Kia shook her pelt, seaweed plant still in her mouth mind you, and drops of red and clear went everywhere, falling short of Honey and Duke though. Then she padded back over to them, her pelt still dripping and sat down in front of Honey. She reached for her paw and added in a gruff tone, “This is going to hurt, but I’m going to do it as quickly as I can. Try to hold still and it will be over before you know it.” She grabbed Honey’s paw, and felt around her joints until she found the one she was looking for. There was a loud CRACK and she quickly put the stick in place and wrapped the seaweed plant around it, and tied it in a knot. Her work was done and she leaned back, letting out a sigh. Then she turned to Duke and said, “I jumped in because I needed to have something to do today… I was getting rather bored, besides, if I wasn’t feeling so generous today, I might not have even helped, just tossed you a stick and hoped that you stayed afloat. I don’t know what happened to me, perhaps it was your friendliness that provoked me into helping… Who knows? Do you?”

Honey lay on the ground, watching the huge gray male leave. And then a blurry conversation between the other male and the female. She felt her paw being supported by the male. The female walked back off along the river. Honey lay perfectly still. Being skilled at healing and medicine seemed useless when you were the one in pain. She felt completely immobilized. Her paw had a strange creeping freezing sensation. Suddenly, the female returned with her coat dripping and some strange reeds in her mouth. Oh, she thinks it's broken honey thought with a start. Her eyes wide, she realized what the other dog was going to do. Re-break her paw. “This is going to hurt," was all she heard before there was a deafening CRACK, and her mind was sent into so much pain that she felt herself going unconscious. When she woke in a daze, her paw was bound in the strange reed plant. The searing pain had turned to a dull ache.

Duke gazed at Honey. He licked her forehead and looked at her. "Are you awake?" he asked her quietly. "Does it hurt?" he ignored the fish that Kia had caught, he wasn't all that hungry.

Honey panted hard, exhausted by the whole scenario. "Yes, it does" she replied to the black faced male. "What was your name again?" she asked.

Kia felt Honey slowly relax to the edge of unconciousness, then return. She rolled her eyes for no reason in particular, just because she hadn't gotten any words out of Honey. She padded over to where the dead fish lay and tore off a piece, then she returned to Honey and said, "Eat, you'll need the energy to get well." Then she turned back around and padded to the rest of the bloody kill, lie down, and endulged herself in the sea bream. It was an old bony fish, but it was very good after she had been skipping her meals for about two days. Skipping meals helped her keep her self-control and helped to train her for harsh times. That way, when winter came and she really couldn't get a meal, she would be adapted to it. Or at least thats what she thought.

Duke smiled at Honey. "It's ok." he assured her with a smile. "And my name is Duke." he added as she asked him. He nodded at Kia. "Yes, you do need your strength, after you eat that, we can find a place for you to rest iof you want." he added.
