The sand sank as a female dog walked hesitantly towards the sea. She put one paw in front of the other, leaving a trail of straight pawprints, and stared blankly ahead, as if in a daze of some sort. The sun was setting slowly, and it felt as if all time had stopped to wait on Kia. She padded to the edge of the water, and watched the swift tide rise.
The sand was pushed aside as she descended into a lying position. The sunset was so beautiful, and she wished she could share it with another, but that was a hopeless thought. Who was there? Her eyes flickered around, and then rested on the white foamed waves that lapped at the shore, threatening to pull it into its depths of the ocean.
The sand was washed white, and more sediment arrived upon the beach, from who knows where? Kia felt the tide wash at her paws, and the salty smell of the sea filled her nose and mouth. It almost put her to sleep, almost. But the longing for another dog kept her awake. It made her hope and dream that there was someone out there just like her, misunderstood. The blame should not have fallen on Kia, but it had. Her past was not one that any dog fancied; being bruised and hurt by your own kin, and not being able to say a word about it.
The sand made Kia feel like it understood her. No matter what happened, each day it was washed away, like her. Being in that torment that she had undergone, made her feel like someone had ducktaped her mouth shut, and no matter how hard she struggled, her screams would always be muffled.
The sand made an imprint of Kia's body, and she was sunken in it about an inch deep. A chord struck in her throat and her voice was singing softly a song that she was sung so long ago when she was born here by the ocean, "I am sitting here by the sea, looking round the bend, but I turn away, and watch the tide come rolling in... and watch my tide come rolling in..."

The golden rays of the sun landed on Koden's pelt as he stopped, paws just hitting the sand. He had never seen so much water in his entire life! He didn't know there was so much water in the entire world, let alone all in one, salty and fishy smelling place.
He was on a beach by the ocean. He had been traveling for days on the streets, and his soft pads, which weren't used to extensive travel, were scraped raw and bleeding. Taking a deep breath, he held his head high with an emotionless gaze as he watched as the waves crashed over the sand. The husky felt peaceful, for the first time in weeks.
Koden was a husky, but he didn't look like one. His pelt looked exactly like a wolf's, as his breed was Tamaskan Husky, a type of husky bred specifically for their wolf appearances. His long white legs and stomach were stained with dirt, and his grey pelt was flecked with brown hairs.
Unfortunately for him, everyone thought he was a wolf. And that led to some encounters that didn't leave him in the best of shape afterwards. Dogs get over-defensive, he’s noticed, in the presence of a wolf, and they feel the need to drive him away by force. Koden came across a pack of dogs who decided not to ask him what he was doing on their territory before attacking. He blamed it on his wolf appearance.
Now there was dried blood clinging to his left haunch and in various places all over his body, and an open wound slowly seeped more into his pelt around his left shoulder. When he began to walk forward again, he did so with an obvious limp.
But this was the place he was searching for. The scents told him there was a pack somewhere close, or at least a few dogs. He wanted to join them to avoid more fights like the one that left him in this condition. However, he didn't want to trespass on another's territory, so he lifted his muzzle and was about to let out several barks when he heard someone’s voice.
It sounded like she was singing, a sound Koden didn’t hear often. He pricked his ears forward and began to trot toward the voice, ignoring the pain in his body as he moved. Soon he saw what he was looking for; another dog slumped in the sand. He cautiously approached with his head low and ears rammed forward.
“Hello,” he said softly, hoping he wouldn’t startle her. He said nothing more, merely waited for her to do something.

Kia lay her head on the ground, ear pressed down. Then, unsuspectingly, she heard paw-steps. Then a voice, soft but sure, spoke to her. Kia turned her head slowly then rested her eyes upon the dog. His soft ‘Hello’ told her that he meant her no harm, but she merely thingyed her head and wondered why he had approached her.
The male had a wolf-like appearance, but when Kia looked farther and closer at him, through all that mud and blood, she could see that he was distinctly a dog. She softened her eyes, removing the hard look that she often gave the ones who confronted her. He seemed different, and even though his coat told a different story of a bloody history.
Kia rose to her paws and said, “Hello, I’m Kia. Is this your territory?” She took a quick glance at his coat and then back up at his eyes. He looked as if he had just finished giving a loner quite a lesson about trespassing. Kia was pretty sure that she and he could have a pretty fair fight, but she didn’t want to risk bloodshed if she didn’t have to.

"No, it’s not my territory," Koden replied, sighing with relief. Her asking that question meant that this wasn't her territory, either. So he wouldn’t get in trouble, quite yet. He glanced around nervously, looking for any pack dogs coming to scold them both before continuing. “I’m called Koden,” he said, “And I’m looking for a pack.” When she looked up at him, he lowered his dark brown gaze, avoiding Kia’s eyes.
He lowered his hind end to sit on his haunches, wincing as the injury in his shoulder stretched at the movement. He glanced at the water crashing over the shore, wishing he could wash the uncomfortable blood and dirt off of his pelt, but afraid of the salty smell. He had never encountered water smelling like this, so he wasn’t sure if there was something bad in it.
He remembered once he found a bucket of stagnant water outside some building once. He was thirsty, so he ignored the bad smell coming off it. It tasted terrible and gave him a stomach ache, so since then, he was always careful about what he drank or ate. He didn’t want to run into that problem again, so he would have to wait for a stream or something to wash himself off. ‘Always trust your nose…’ he told himself glumly.

Kia let out a sigh of relief; they were no threat to each other. She shook her fur lightly, knocking mucky sand out of it. Glancing around for any other dogs, she said, “This is Comaii Pack territory. I am not of their pack; I’m Alpha in the Hazcoe pack. They probably won’t be coming after us though; they aren’t horrible, bloodthirsty creatures.” She thingyed her head and turned back towards the sea; the sunset was hovering right at the horizon. She turned back around and watched him wince at his bloody injury. Clearing her throat she said, “You probably want to get that wound clean. No doubt it’s becoming infected right at this very moment. Don’t clean it in the ocean, unless you want more pain than you ever thought possible. I wouldn’t drink it either, unless you also want a mouthful of salt.” She smiled at him and waited for a reply. (I am so running low on muse!)

.:Kyoshire:.
Kyo looked around confusedly, where was he, he had been wandering for hours, where were his parents? The small pup was only 1-2months old, and knew he could easily be killed out by himself. He looked around, big blue puppy eyes looking for a dog of any sort, 'Cept mean of course, he thought hesitantly. he trotted forward, terribly tired, about ready to give up, when he heard something, thinking it must be his family, he ran in the direction of the sound, tongue lolling out. Kyo was suddenly surprised when he hit something, before opening his eyes, he made a mental note in his fuzzy head that if he survived never to do this again. He slowly opened his eyes to see a giant, bloody, wolf-like creature in front of him. Please, please! Don't eat mai! Please don't! he begged, about to cry out in fear.

Koden tilted his head as he listened to Kia, taking in as much information as he could. So he was in another pack's territory...And she was Alpha of a different pack? 'Well that's strange,' he thought, 'Why would an Alpha stray from her territory and into another's? Wouldn't that cause a fight?' He decided not to ask, as he wanted to avoid offending anyone, especially while in another pack's territory. After all, he didn't know much about pack life, so he could be off in his thinking. The only things he knew was what he'd gathered from the dogs who had attacked him.
He thought his reponse over carefully and was about to reply when he felt something run into him, and let out a painful grunt. He spun around, growling at whatever hit him, but immediatly stopped and softened his face when he realized it was only a puppy, and frowned when the little pup started whining and begging. "Hey, it's okay," he said softly, twisting around to hide the injuries on his sides; they probably looked a bit intimidating to a puppy. "I won't eat you." 'I'm no cannibal,' he added silently to himself. He lowered his head, trying to look smaller so the puppy wouldn't be as intimidated. Once again, he cursed his wolf-like appearance.

~Lily~ A small golden puppy trudged thorugh the sand, following her brother Kyo's footprints. She lifted up one paw at a time and shook the sand from it, and then plopped in back down into the sand a few inches ahead of her. Lily was very prissy about keeping clean, even if it meant only going about 10 inches every 5 minutes. Then she heard her big brothers voice around the corner. She trudged through as fast as she could and scrambled up on harder sand that held her up. Stumbling over her clumsy paws she ran up to Kyo yelping, "Kyo! Kyo! Where was you!" Then she saw the giant wolf and his partner looming over them. Lily let out another yelp, and then took a puppyish 'defensive' stance, and barked in a loud squeaky voice, "Leave my brother alone you bully! If you don't Ill- I'll-," she paused for a moment, drawing in her breath, "I'll BITE YOU!"[/color]
~Kia~ Kia watched as the little 'Kyo" ran into Koden, and then his sister arrived defensive. She stepped fowards and said, "Don't worry, we're not going to hurt you." She glanced at Koden as the little female tryed to chew him out, and stiffened a laugh.

"I'm not hurting anyone," Koden said indiginantly, frowning as the new pup, apparently this pup's sister, started yelling at him. He heard her calling the male Kyo. "Kyo here just ran into me," he explained. 'And opened up the cut on my haunch,' Koden groaned inwardly, glancing down to see fresh blood on the sand. 'I really need to get this cleaned out...'
He turned his attention back to the pups, suddenly worried. Where were their parents? He gave a faint wag of his tail to reassure them, hoping the female would calm down a bit. "I won't hurt you guys, I like pups. Where are your parents?" Koden kept his voice soft and steady, knowing it would be the best way to calm them down. He didn't want them running off and getting hurt.
((Not the best, sorry...))

Kia decided enough was enough. She stepped up forward and snapped rather harshly but not too severely, "Oh, come off it! He didn't hurt your brother and he isn't the wolf you think he is! And if you bite him I will tell your parents you were bad!"
Lily gave her a smuge look and stated it like she was very important, chest held high, "You don't even KNOW my parents as a matter of fact! Demetri and Sakura could beat you in a fight anyday!"
Kia smiled. So these were Demitri's pups, eh? She stepped backwards beside Koden and watched the two. Lily held her head high, thinking that she had won the arguement with her peer. Kia looked down at the clumsy pup and stated, "I am a leader with your father; I'm female Alpha of the Hazcoe. I can return you to Demitri if you want."
Lily's pride faded. Aplha? It was a trick! An old gag that was meant to be thrown over her head and choking her. She kept up her smug attitude and barked sharply, "You're a lier! PROVE IT!"

"Now now," Koden said humorously, "Is it really a wise idea to be picking a fight with a dog three times your size?" He paused, thinking carefully over what he was going to say. He didn't want to say something that would make them run off, he would never catch them in his current state. "Why don't you let us take you home?" he suggested lightly, "I'm sure your parents are probably very worried about you."
He stood up, shaking his pelt and trying his best to ignore the pain from his injuries. His face twisted in a grimace, but he tried his best to hide it. "Come on, now," he said gently, "We can take you home, right, Kia?" He glanced in the other dog's direction, hoping she knew where to go if the pups complied. He had no idea, as he was new to the area.
((I'm really sorry it took so long to post. My computer's internet went out and I didn't have much time with school piling on the projects X__x And sorry my post is lame....recovering from lack of muse, too. ))
